OUR WORK

Five areas we drive change

The Afghan-American Foundation works at the intersection of advocacy, public education, community engagement, research, and Afghanistan policy to advance Afghan-American voices and interests.

Our work reflects the experiences of a community shaped by migration, resilience, service, displacement, culture, and civic contribution. Through partnerships, policy engagement, research, storytelling, and community leadership, AAF works to strengthen representation, build understanding, and support meaningful action on the issues affecting Afghan-Americans and Afghans.

01

Policy Advocacy

AAF advocates for fair, humane, and informed policies that advance the rights, dignity, and interests of Afghan-American communities and Afghans affected by U.S. policy.

We work with policymakers, partners, and coalitions to ensure Afghan-American perspectives are represented in decisions that impact our communities, our families, and Afghanistan’s future. Our advocacy is rooted in lived experience, community needs, and a commitment to justice, dignity, and meaningful representation.

02

Public Education & Narrative Building

AAF builds public understanding of Afghan history, culture, identity, and the refugee experience, while advancing policy education on issues shaping Afghan lives in the United States and Afghanistan.

Through storytelling, public events, media engagement, and educational resources, AAF challenges harmful narratives and helps create more accurate, human, and informed conversations about Afghan-Americans and Afghanistan.

03

Research & Thought Leadership

AAF produces research, analysis, and public insights that inform policy, strengthen advocacy, and elevate Afghan-American perspectives in national conversations.

Through reports, data, convenings, and commentary, we help deepen understanding of Afghan-American communities and the issues shaping Afghan lives in the United States and Afghanistan. Our work supports more informed decision-making by policymakers, partners, funders, and community leaders.

04

Afghanistan Policy, Human Rights & Peace

AAF advances Afghan-American perspectives on Afghanistan policy, human rights, humanitarian assistance, accountability, and peace.

Through thought leadership, advocacy, public education, coalition-building, and policy engagement, we support approaches that center the dignity, rights, and aspirations of the Afghan people. Our work reflects the deep ties Afghan-Americans maintain with Afghanistan and our commitment to a just and lasting peace.

05

Community & Civic Engagement

AAF develops Afghan-American leaders and fosters meaningful participation in U.S. civic life.

Through convenings, civic education, leadership opportunities, and community partnerships, we help Afghan-Americans connect, engage, and lead in the communities they call home. Our work supports stronger representation, deeper belonging, and a more active Afghan-American presence in public life.
