AAF Condemns the Heinous Attack on Two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 27, 2025

On a day when families across America will gather in gratitude, two families are instead facing grief, fear, and uncertainty. As our nation absorbs the news of the senseless shooting of two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., we join our fellow Americans in shock, sorrow, and outrage.

The Afghan-American Foundation condemns this heinous act in the strongest possible terms. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the service members who were targeted, and we hold them close in our prayers as our country processes this violence.

Members of our Afghan-American community serve in all branches of the U.S. armed forces, including in National Guard units across the country. Our connection to those who serve is deeply personal, forged through more than two decades of shared sacrifice in Afghanistan, where Afghans and Americans stood side by side.

While information on this tragedy continues to emerge, what we do already know is devastating. The individual responsible must be held fully accountable under the laws and values our service members work every day to defend.

We urge our Afghan-American community not to retreat in fear during this moment but to join us in unequivocally and loudly condemning this heinous act. This violence has no place in our communities, in our cities, and in our country.

We call on our elected leaders, the media, and Americans of good conscience to respond responsibly. Follow the facts, resist fear, and ensure that this tragedy is not used to divide communities or break apart the ties that bind us.

And we say this as well: the actions of one individual must never be used to cast suspicion and animosity toward an entire community. Afghan Americans, including the allies who stood beside U.S. forces for years, are a part of the fabric of America. We should not and cannot let the actions of one individual tear that fabric.

On this day, our grief is real and our anger justified, but our resolve to be a part of the healing that must come is steadfast. We ask every American to join us in that as healing just as we ask them to join us in standing with those whose lives have forever been changed by this abhorrent attack.
