AAF Statement on the Biden Administration's Review of US Withdrawal from Afghanistan

It’s about time the administration began acknowledging its failure to properly execute America’s exit from Afghanistan, including the botched evacuation of many of its Afghan allies. AAF and many of our partners and allies had warned of the perils of a hasty withdrawal many months ahead of the disastrous events of August 2021. Less than a month after his election, we warned then President-elect Biden that a haphazard withdrawal would put the lives of American citizens and many Afghan allies at great risk.

Taking responsibility requires more than a report or a statement. It also requires doing right by our Afghan allies now - starting with a streamlined and efficient process for Afghans to seek re-parole and automatic extension of work authorization, immediate extension and re-designation of Afghanistan for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), keeping our promises to protect Afghans left behind, and doing whatever is necessary to get Congress to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act.
